4.000 bis 5.000 Menschen wohnten bis zu dessen Räumung im „Dschungel“ von Calais, dem illegalen Flüchtlingslager an der französischen Küste zu Großbritannien. Die von Bewohner_innen des Lagers selbst mitgestaltete Dokumentation legt das Leben und die Lebensbedingungen dort offen. Entstanden ist ein nahegehendes Zeugnis des unwürdigen, rauen Zeltlabyrinths in dem der Protagonist die Menge selbst ist: Zwischen improvisierten Kirchen, Läden und Plätzen entwickelte sich eine Parallelgesellschaft in der sich Hoffnungslosigkeit und Zuversicht der Individuen abwechseln, die von allen Enden der Welt ihre Geschichte mitgebracht haben und sich nun notdürftig arrangieren müssen. Before its evacuation, about 5,000 people lived in the “jungle“ of Calais, the illegal refugee camp on the French coast. This documentary, co-filmed by inhabitants of the camp themselves, reveals the harsh living conditions in the camp. The result is a testimony to the parallel society that has emerged, in which hope and hopelessness alternatingly have the upper hand. (JPi)
